Secondary Education, BA

This secondary education major is intended for students with a focus in one of the K-12 content areas. It is foundational, integrated, relevant, personal and challenging. Students are encouraged to take advantage of study abroad and May/June terms opportunities around the world.

This major consists of 34-44 credits of departmental courses, depending on content major and/or minor declared. Students must declare a second major in one of the following content areas:

Students may also declare one or more of these minors:

Core Secondary Education


Professional


Students with a content major in music (instrumental or vocal) or a special education minor do not take EDUC 287 .

Students with a content major in music (instrumental or vocal), physical and health education, vor visual arts do not take EDUC 320 .

Secondary Methods


The methods course taken will depend on the students content major. Students with a content major in music (instrumental or vocal), physical and health education, or visual arts will complete methods as part of the requirements for that major.

Student Teaching in Middle or High School


French, German or Latin (10 credits)


Music, Physical Education, Spanish or Visual Arts (10 credits)


Special Education, Learning Disabilities (10 credits)


Special Education, Emotional Impairments (10 credits)


Special Education, Emotional Impairments and Learning Disabilities


Students who minor in both Special Education, Emotional Impairments K-12 Minor  and Special Education, Learning Disabilities K-12 Minor  take 5 credits of EDUC 460  and 5 credits of EDUC 465 .
