Classical Studies, BA

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Academic Departments and Degrees

Classical Studies is a multidisciplinary enterprise. Language study is necessary to help us think like a Roman or a Greek, but work in Classical Studies involves attention to many fields: history, philosophy, religion, art and theatre among them. Courses include Greek or Latin courses, as well as courses taught in English from across other disciplines.

The Classical Studies major consists of 30 credits:

  • 12 credits of either Greek or Latin (choose one language) beginning with GRK 171  or LATN 171
  • 18 credits of elective courses in either advanced Greek or Latin or interdisciplinary courses related to the classical world

Students should choose elective courses in consultation with their Classical Studies advisor.

Students may count up to 12 credits from study abroad programs toward their Classical Studies major.
