This minor must be declared in conjunction with a Dance Dual Major, BA , Dance Performance and Choreography, BA , or Dance Minor . It emphasizes the preparation for the teaching of dance with various levels of instruction, from early childhood to professional, in a variety of sectors ranging from studios to teaching artists, outreach programs, community centers. Students will develop a teaching philosophy, engage in best practices, foster community engagement, and apply knowledge and understanding through a teaching practicum. Coursework includes domains of teaching and learning dance such as pedagogical theory, assessment, evaluation and reflection practices, curriculum development, and advocacy efforts. The program is designed to enhance teaching effectiveness of dance through pedagogical, practical and philosophical perspectives. This minor serves students as teaching artists, dance studio owners, and others areas of dance instruction. It does not lead to state teacher certification.
The dance pedagogy minor is 18 credits of coursework when declared with a dance major. It is 19 credits of coursework when declared with the dance minor.
