TEACHER CERTIFICATION: In partnership with the Hope College Department of Education, the Department of World Languages and Cultures offers a teaching major in Latin for certification through the State of Michigan. Students planning to teach a foreign language at the secondary level must meet all requirements of Education Department upon being formally admitted to the Teacher Education program in addition to those of the language department. See the Education Department and World Languages and Cultures websites.

Requirements for the 30 credit Latin teaching major are:


  • 4 credits of Teaching World Languages K-12 (EDUC 388  /EDUC 389  ). This course is considered pedagogy and is not part of the 30 hour major.

26 credits in Latin at the 300-level or above


4 credits of Linguistics
