History Education Minor

In partnership with the Department of Education, the Department of History offers a teaching minor for certification through the State of Michigan. The history minor for certification to teach in secondary schools (grades six-12) consists of a minimum of 26 credits.

Students intending to complete this minor should consult with the Department of Education as they plan their schedules.

All students desiring a minor for secondary teaching certification must take the following courses:

HIST 140 - History Workshop Credits: 2
HIST 160 - U.S. History to 1877 Credits: 4
HIST 161 - U.S. History Since 1877 Credits: 4
HIST 175 - Michigan History Credits: 2
EDUC 305 - Physical Geography Credits: 2
EDUC 321 - Teaching of Social Studies in the Secondary School Credits: 3 and
EDUC 322 - Teaching of Social Studies in the Secondary School Clinical Experience Credits: 1

Either

HIST 130 - Introduction to Ancient Civilization Credits: 4 and
HIST 208 - Introduction to World History since 1500 Credits: 4
or
HIST 131 - Introduction to Modern European History Credits: 4 and
HIST 207 - Introduction to World History to 1500 Credits: 4
