PSY 355 - Environmental Psychology You cannot understand an organism without understanding its environment. In the same way, you cannot understand human psychology without understanding the places in which humans live, socialize, and work. In this course, we will explore people’s reciprocal relationship with the physical world. We will discuss what attracts people to particular places, the ways in which people use physical space to satisfy basic psychological needs for safety, identity, and belonging, how settings (e.g., homes, workplaces, schools) can be designed to more effectively promote positive mental health, and how practitioners can use psychological interventions to increase pro-environmental behaviors.
