MATH 251 - Teaching Geometry in Secondary Schools


This course prepares mathematics teacher candidates to teach geometry to secondary students. Candidates will develop curriculum materials focused on algebra that will engage diverse secondary students with a wide range of abilities in mathematical thinking, communication, and problem-solving consistent with national and state standards. Activity and laboratory approaches for teaching mathematics are emphasized with topics such as proofs, polygons, transformations, trigonometry, and other geometric topics. Candidates will learn to plan units, lessons, and instruction to demonstrate content competency in a range of mathematics content.
