SPAN 350 - Histories of the Spanish Speaking World A civilization and culture course about the Spanish-speaking world, including a historical survey from Medieval Spain to contemporary Latin America. Course topics may include early Spanish peoples and cultures, prehispanic indigenous nations, Spanish conquest and colonization, cultural resistance, and assimilation, the U.S. role in Latin America, global migration, and gender roles and relations. The course targets an intermediate-high level of oral language proficiency according to the ACTFL proficiency guidelines and practices advanced proficiency in reading and writing in Spanish. SPAN 250 and SPAN 251 are highly recommended prior to this course.
