CLAS 220 - Ancient Rome and the Third Reich: Fascist Appropriations of Classical Antiquity This class explains how Tacitus’s Germania, a small Roman book written in 98 CE has been used–and abused–for 2000 years to make political claims about Germany and Germans, and how it became a driving force behind Fascist and Nazi Ideology. Students will learn to select and interpret a variety of historical sources, and to construct a clear argument supported by evidence. Cross-listed with GERM 220 and HIST 220 .
