ENGS 222L - Mechanics of Materials Laboratory This course will introduce students to fundamental concepts in mechanical testing and metallurgy. Students will learn the basic components of a computerized data acquisition system and how these systems are used in mechanical testing. Students will also gain experience using an Instron testing machine to determine basic mechanical properties of a range of materials, including metals, woods, composites, and elastomers. The metallurgy component will include sample preparation for viewing with an optical microscope, heat treating metals, and Rockwell hardness testing.
