ECON 309 - Environmental Economics and Sustainability


A study of the impact of economic activity on environmental sustainability. One focus will be on the theory of environmental economics. Economic topics will include externalities, property rights, environmental regulations, Pigouvian taxes and subsidies, economic growth, climate change, and issues in cost-benefit analysis. The course will also place the study of environmental economics into the context of Christian environmental ethics, and different conceptions of environmentally sustainable business. Topics may include stewardship, ecotheology, ecological economics, models of corporate social responsibility, and sustainable development.
