PHIL 115 - Introduction to Ethics An introduction to philosophical reflection on right and wrong conduct and the good life. Students will ask whether right and wrong are to be determined by assessing benefits and harms, conforming to duties, or through other methods. Ethical theories to be covered include consequentialism, deontology, divine command theory, and virtue ethics. Students will learn about the basic structure of arguments, including premises and conclusion, so as to be able to discern an author’s argument, assess it charitably, and consider possible objections.
