HIST 161 - United States History Since 1877


This course surveys U.S. history from Reconstruction to the present. It examines the major social, political, and economic events that shaped the U.S. after the Civil War, focusing especially on industrialization, Progressivism, WWI, the Great Depression, the New Deal, the Cold War, the Civil Rights Movement, the Sixties, and Reagan Republicanism. The course will introduce students to the study of history, using a variety of primary and secondary sources to analyze and understand change over time. Students will learn to construct historical arguments and support them with appropriate evidence.
