EDUC 313 - Whole Child Development Pre-K Through 3rd Grade


Students will develop a rich understanding of the field of child development and early childhood education. Students will learn about and view the typical and atypical behaviors of young children. Students will explore and examine all of the developmental areas of early childhood including physical, adaptive, cognitive, social/emotional, and language development. Students will review the major theories of early childhood development and explore the ways the theories influence approaches to early childhood care and education. During clinical experiences, students will observe and analyze young children’s development and interactions in multiple environments. Students will also explore national and state organizations/associations that set standards for early childhood programs. Students will leave this course with the ability to develop, comprehend, apply, and analyze important topics in child development and early childhood education. Skills gained in this course will assist students in preparation for professional membership in early childhood education programming.
