EDUC 270 - Foundations of Education This course delves into education’s multifaceted realm, exploring historical influences, core teaching practices, and essential teaching dispositions. Through critical discussions on current events, students elicit thinking and lead discussions. We analyze educational philosophies and paradigms, focusing on teacher thinking and learner-centered strategies. Emphasis is on effective instructional strategies, engagement, UDL, and assessment practices, while addressing the diverse American classroom and hidden curriculum. Promoting equity, justice, and culturally responsive pedagogy is paramount, alongside exploring the whole child, social-emotional learning, and trauma-informed teaching. A virtual classroom assignment applies learning practically. Lastly, we examine school structure and governance.
