ART 241 - Modern Art: Counter Cultures from the Turn of the 20th Century to the Post-War Period


A chronological survey of modernist and avant-garde practices in European and American art, architecture, and urban design from approximately 1900-1960. This course begins with a critical discussion of modernity and addresses modernist artistic theories, aesthetic debates, and art-making practices through lectures, discussions, and close readings of primary sources from the period. ART 111  is highly recommended prior to this course.
