HIST 285 - Gender and Sexuality in Antiquity This course surveys male and female gender roles in the Ancient Near East, Greece, and Rome. It examines questions of patriarchy/matriarchy, marriage patterns, and attitudes toward sexuality displayed in the literature and art of those cultures. Attention is given to problems of methodology and modern interpretations of ancient sources on this subject, including the Old and New Testaments.
