HIST 256 - Recent America: From World War II to 9/11 This course focuses on the United States as a world power. We examine the ways American men and women of different classes, races, regions and religions dealt with the social, cultural, economic and political changes that happened during the last half of the twentieth century. Major topics include the Cold War and the economic boom of the 1950s, Vietnam and the rise of protest in the 1960s, the economic and foreign policy challenges of the 1970s, the rise of conservatism in the 1980s, the economic and foreign policy challenges of the 1970s, the rise of political conservatism in the 1980s, and the challenges of diversity and globalization in the 1990s.
