HIST 251 - Revolutionary America: Visionaries, Rebels, and Ruffians This course examines the forces, people, philosophies, and events that characterized colonial American society and led to the Revolution of 1776. From those beginnings, the ideals and practical necessities of winning the social, political, and military struggle for independence imposed realities that later affected the nation as it sought to consolidate its victory. The 1787 Constitutional Convention was the culmination of one struggle to establish a nation based upon democratic republican principles, and the beginning of another struggle to ensure that those ideals were applied and enjoyed by all Americans.
