ART 241 - Modern Art and Architecture A chronological survey of Modern art, architecture, and urban design in Europe and America from approximately 1750 to 1900. This course begins its critical discussion of modernity in Enlightenment France and continues to address alternate theories of representation up to the postwar period, including the work of Jacques-Louis David, Edouard Manet, and Henri Matisse. Artistic theories, aesthetic debates, and primary sources from the period will be critically examined. ART 111 is highly recommended prior to this course.
