HIST 278 - Disability History: US and the World We will survey major topics in disability studies about disability identities, institutions, theories, experiences, and interactions. We will learn to use and interpret a range of historical sources on the lives of people with disabilities-who they were/are, how they were/are disabled by circumstances, how they represent/represented themselves and were/are represented in different media. By comparing disability cultures in the US and in a global historical context, we will uncover the roots of the discourses of disability in modern thought, and make sense of disability as “difference” in productive and constructive ways that speak to how we live our lives.
