ENGL 113 - Expository Writing I In this course, students develop the knowledge, skills, habits, and attitudes of successful writers. Students cultivate their understanding of rhetoric, including adapting to various purposes, audiences, and contexts. Students reflect on and add to their writing processes through drafting, revising, and polishing their work and through building writing communities through peer review practices. Finally, students demonstrate their knowledge of typical writing expectations (i.e. conventions) by writing in different genres (including narratives, analyses, and research projects), editing their work, and producing accurate citations. All sections of this course engage students in rigorous inquiry to cultivate critical thinking, practice information literacy, and conduct library research. Generally, the course is taught thematically, leaving the area of exploration to the discretion of the individual instructor. This course is normally completed during the first year of a student’s academic program. For additional details about the course curriculum, see the document Anchor Plan Guidelines.
