Social Studies Education, Economics Concentration, BA

The Hope College Education Department offers a social studies teaching major, with an economics concentration, in the secondary level for certification through the Michigan Department of Education. The major consists of 36 core social studies credits and 12 economics credits, for a total of 48 credits.

In addition, students must also declare one of the 41-credit secondary education teaching majors: Secondary Education, 5-9 Gr, 7-12 Gr, BA  (for a middle school focus) or Secondary Education, 7-12 Gr, 5-9 Gr, BA  (for a high school focus).

Students may also declare one or more of these minors:

• Psychology Education Minor  
• Special Education, Emotional Impairments K-12 Minor  
• Special Education, Learning Disabilities K-12 Minor  
• Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages Minor
