Sacred Music, Voice, BMU

The Bachelor of Music with a Sacred Music, Voice major consists of 101 credits, comprised of core music requirements, performance tracks in either organ or voice, a junior recital, four semesters of internship, and supporting coursework in religion and ministry.

Certain Anchor Plan requirements will be met through requirements of the Sacred Music major:

  • COMM 101  should be taken to complete the Social Science requirement
  • REL 121  or REL 161  should be taken to complete the Religion 100-Level requirement
  • REL 241 REL 261 REL 262 , or REL 263  should be taken to complete the Religion 200-Level requirement

Anchor Plan for Bachelor of Music


The Bachelor of Music degree has a modified set of Anchor Plan requirements:

  • The Arts in Practice requirement will be met with courses required for the major.
  • BMU students take one Human Creative Perspectives course and one Historical Perspectives course (first course at the 100 level; second course at the 200-level). They do not need to take a Philosophical Perspectives course.
  • The Mathematics and Natural Science requirement is 6-7 credits: one Mathematics course, and one Natural Science with Lab course.
  • BMU students take one Social Science course, instead of two.

Concert Attendance (8 semesters)


Counterpoint or Post-Tonal Theory (1 course)


Ensembles (4 credits and 8 semesters)


BMU Performance students must take an ensemble each semester on their primary instrument. Ensemble placements are by audition for appropriate placement. Vocalists must participate in a large vocal ensemble for all 8 semesters.
