Japanese Studies, BA

The Japanese Studies major helps students develop fluency in the language, increase their level of understanding of and experience in Japanese culture, and pursue a specialized field of study of the student’s own choosing. Courses include language and culture courses, as well as courses taught in English from across other disciplines.

The Japanese Studies major consists of 30 credits:

  • 18 credits of Japanese beginning with JAPN 101
  • 12 credits of elective courses in either advanced Japanese or interdisciplinary courses related to Japan

Students should choose elective courses in consultation with their Japanese Studies advisor.

Students may count up to 16 credits from study abroad programs toward their Japanese major.
