Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Majors and Minors

The professional writing minor prepares students to write well for many careers through its unique combination of applied and specialized writing instruction and real-world writing projects. Students will write across a variety of in-demand genres such as analytical reports, proposals, executive summaries, grant applications, literature reviews, and digital content. Students will write for a variety of organizations, allowing students to apply their skills, receive feedback from professionals, and generate a portfolio of successful projects.

The professional writing minor includes writing course offerings from multiple disciplines to encourage the development of writing skills across the disciplines. Students should be aware that the writing minor is not approved for teacher certification by the state. Credit toward the minor for writing-intensive internships may be available, if arranged in advance. For more information about course selection and securing English credit for internship in other departments, please contact the program advisor. Courses counted toward a professional writing minor may not also be counted toward an English major or another English minor.

The professional minor consists of 15 credits.
