History Education, BA

In partnership with the Hope College Education Department, the History Department offers a history teaching major in the secondary level for certification through the Michigan Department of Education. The major consists of 30 credits.

In addition, students must also declare one of the 44-credit secondary education teaching majors: Secondary Education, 5-9 Gr, 7-12 Gr, BA  (for a middle school focus) or Secondary Education, 7-12 Gr, 5-9 Gr, BA  (for a high school focus). Students may also declare a content minor:​ Psychology Education Minor  or Teaching English as a Second Language Minor .

200- and 300-level History Electives


Students must complete one 200-level HIST and one 300-level HIST course. At least one of the courses must be non-United States history.
