Students who plan to do graduate work in history are urged to attain reading proficiency in two global languages.

Majors planning to study mainly the history of areas other than the United States are strongly urged to spend a summer, semester, or year of study in the geographic area of their concentration. A Classical Studies, BA  combining work in history, classical languages, art, and philosophy courses is also available.

The history major consists of 33 credits. At least two of the courses must be at the 200-level, and at least two of the courses must be at the 300-level. No more than three survey courses at the 100-level may count (HIST 110 HIST 120 HIST 121 HIST 130 HIST 131 HIST 160 , or HIST 161 ).
