Dance Dual Major, BA

The dance dual major is designed for students who wish to double-major in dance and another major. The courses required for all dance dual majors are listed below. There are additional dance requirements that vary depending on the second major declared. Examples of dual major combinations are listed at the bottom of this page.

Requirements for all Dance Dual Majors


Performance Technique (23 credits)


Students must take a minimum of 2 credits in each dance form (ballet, hip hop, jazz, modern, tap) plus a historic/global dance form. Additional credits must be completed to achieve the 23-credit minimum performance technique requirement. Students will be placed according to experience level and demonstrated ability. 

Ballet (2 credits)


Hip Hop (2 credits)


Jazz (2 credits)


Modern (2 credits)


Tap (2 credits)


Conditioning and Recovery


Dance/Arts (47.5 total dance credits)


A preparatory program for graduate school and/or careers in musical theatre, performance art, or art and design. Students must complete 47.5 dance credits (including the courses listed below), along with the requirements for a second major in the Arts.

Dance/Humanities (46.5 total dance credits)


A preparatory program for graduate school and/or careers in dance criticism, history, cultural studies or writing. Students may choose to continue their education or pursue a dance-related career writing for a dance or art magazine or other media. Students must complete 46.5 dance credits (including the courses listed below), along with the requirements for a second major in the Humanities.

Dance Repertory (2 credits)


Dance/Natural Science (47.5 total dance credits)


Students must complete 47.5 dance credits (including the courses listed below), along with the requirements for a second major in the Natural and Applied Sciences.

Example: Dance/Biology or Chemistry. A preparatory program for graduate or medical school and a career in dance medicine. Students who plan to apply to a health professions program should consult with the Pre-Health Professions advisors. Students may specialize in orthopedic or neurological medicine or physical therapy.

Example: Dance/Engineering or Physics. A preparatory program for graduate school and a career in dance science. In graduate school, students can further analyze movement, learning about the biomechanical and physiological aspects of movement. Careers may focus on injury prevention, care and rehabilitation or technology and dance.

Dance/Social Science (47.5 total dance credits)


Students must complete 47.5 dance credits (including the courses listed below), along with the requirements for a second major in the Social Sciences.

Example: Dance/Psychology. A preparatory program for graduate school and a career in dance/movement therapy. Dance movement therapists work in a variety of therapeutic educational and clinical settings, assisting individuals in their emotional, psychological and physical development and well-being.
