Community Arts Pedagogy Minor

This minor is intended to introduce Studio Art & Art History students to the basic knowledge of teaching visual art in multiple social contexts through discussions, readings, projects, designing curriculum, and in-class teaching. Teaching visual art requires the artist-teacher to encourage students in visual cultural expression, contextualize contemporary visual communication, and provide a historically relevant understanding of visual literacy.

This minor is intended for students who are interested in working in settings such as community arts programs, museum education, and cultural centers. It does not lead to state teacher certification.

The community arts pedagogy minor consists of 18 credits. Studio art and art history courses used for this minor may not also count towards a studio art major or minor, or an art history major or minor.
