WGS 273 - Gender and Society

This course introduces students to the sociological study of gender. Most centrally, we investigate the socially constructed nature of gender and ways aspects of gender inequality are reproduced in society. We build knowledge in these areas both by investigating key sociological theories about gender and by examining relationships between gender and several social institutions such as the family, work, education, and religion. We give sustained attention to masculinity and to ways gender matters in areas of social life in which it is often overlooked. Cross-listed with SOC 273 .
