REL 360 - Becoming Good

This course explores Christian reflection on moral formation and sanctification, both in the history of church and in conversation with scientific and philosophical thought. Important questions will include the role and operation of divine grace in moral formation, habituation, the extent of transformation possible in this life, and the role of judgment or punishment in moral formation. Theological readings will include the Bible, Aristotle, Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, Teresa of Avila, Martin Luther, John Calvin, and more. These will be placed in conversation with recent research in moral and developmental psychology.
