REL 162 - God, Earth, Ethics

Global warming, oil spills, acid rain, drinking water contamination, topsoil erosion, species extinction, smog. The earth and we its inhabitants are in trouble, claim numerous professional earth-watchers. Is this claim true? If so, what are the causes of ecological degradation? And what is the role of religion? How have religious beliefs and practices contributed to these problems and how might they be part of the solution? In this course we will seek to answer these questions with honesty, insight, and hope.
