SPAN 462 - Beyond Grammar: Language and Linguistics


A hands-on introduction to the diverse world of linguistics, through an exploration of specific subfields and topics, and Spanish-English comparisons. From sounds and structures, to meaning and interaction, to histories and dialects, to language contact and change, to second language acquisition and classroom instruction, students will develop an introductory understanding of how language works, while continuing to advance their language proficiency in Spanish and their cultural competence of the Spanish-speaking world. Conducted entirely in Spanish. SPAN 350  and SPAN 351  are highly recommended prior to this course.
