GES 111 - How The Earth Works: An Introduction to Plate Tectonics Plate tectonics is a theory that has revolutionized geology, giving the science its first coherent, widely accepted picture of how the whole Earth works. This course is designed to give students a solid understanding of the basic theory, the evidence on which it is based, and its application to subjects as diverse as earthquakes, volcanoes, mountain ranges, precious metal deposits, the topography of the sea floor, and the history of life.
